It was a podcast that gave me the courage to finally admit I had a drink problem. Listening to other people talk about their unhealthy relationship with alcohol resonated deeply and crucially, I felt like I was not alone. I laughed, cried and nodded in agreement to the scarily familiar stories. The digital age means there is a range of help available at your fingertips if you want to give up drinking. l often pop on a podcast if I need a bit of extra support.
Here are three of the best:
SOBER AWKWARD - hosted by Vic and Hamish, two expat Brits living in Australia, this is so laugh out loud hilarious, it should come with a health warning. Their episode 'Your First 100 Days of Sobriety' was my epiphany moment.
They Think It's All Sober - Jamie and Tom have 30 combined years in the music industry - a business once synonymous with debauchery - interview people each week about how they changed their relationship with alcohol.
One For The Road - Sober Dave, a former carpet fitter who landed a job on 60 Minute Makeover, got sober in 2019 and is now an author, motivational speak and addiction coach. This podcast features the most poignant and inspirational life stories from people in recovery as well as insights from experts (the episode with Professor David Nutt on what alcohol does to brain chemistry is fascinating).
